What inspired your vision for your wedding day? Do you have a theme or color palette? How do you envision your ideal wedding day?
ALL THE BLUES. Kelly is a crazy blue girl and maids/groomsmen will be in Light blue, french blue, dusty blue, romantic blue (dark), and more. We’ll have the pretty blue goblets for water, etc. Levi enjoys purples so he will be in a gray suit with a periwinkle tie and pocket square. Our flowers will be blues, whites, purples, and lots of greenery.
How did you two meet?
Kelly’s coworkers like to say that Levi and Kelly “courted” for many years over repeat viewings of Jurassic Park & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on VHS, countless ice cream runs, and 1,000 late night conversations about books and The X-Files. After years of friendship, Levi and Kelly became a couple at the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. (It was the worst Star Wars movie, don’t try to argue with us.) They proceeded to spend all their time together, mostly while at Barnes & Noble and Moe’s Southwestern Grill (until baseball season, that is.) They are still on a no-book-buying lock down from this time together.
Tell me about the proposal!
They arrived at Fenway, sat through hours of a rain delay while singing and laughing in their premium Red Sox ponchos, and enjoyed every second of it. Then the Red Sox won 8-1! On the second night of the trip, they took dessert down to the Boston Harbor to watch the sunset, where Levi proposed! Kelly was so surprised her answer was first, “No, no, no, no, no,” followed by an immediate “YES!” Kelly added, this is all 100% true, but something else really special about it, is when they got down to the harbor, Levi told Kelly that he had gotten a present for her while she was looking in another shop, so she immediately wanted it. He then had to tell her, “what do you do to get a present?” (This is something Kelly’s mom ALWAYS made her do, and something she regularly makes everyone else do as well. You have to hold out your hands and close your eye). So Kelly closed her eyes and put out her hands, Levi put the ring box in her hands, got down on one knee, and then said she could open her eyes. Then came the surprised exclamation of no, then YES!
(It’s by far the sweetest part of the story. Levi didn’t get to meet Kelly’s mom but he has been a faithful listener of stories and the best companion I could have.)
What is some advice you’d give to a newly engaged couple about the whole wedding planning process?
I’m sure everyone gives the advice, but to truly not worry about the how, or the venue, or anything. You will find a way to get married and if you’re marrying the person you love, it will be perfect despite X, Y, Z.
